| May 2, W - | I dropped Jo and her mom off at Metro at 7:15 AM. Jo called me at 1:00
PM at work to tell me that Dr. Player was finished, and that Jennifer did not have to have any surgery, nor did she
have to be anesthetized. Jennifer is now in a body cast from her waist down to her toes. When Jo saw Jennifer
this morning prior to her scheduled operation, she looked as if she had a cold - she was very pale and congested.
Jo mentioned that fact to the doctors, and also that it might not be a good idea to operate on Jennifer while she was
in such a state, but the doctors said not to worry about it. Penny drove Jo and mom home. Carol Hooper gave
us a pair of booties for Jennifer. I was very tired today, so we did not go back this evening to visit with her.
Jo called Metro later and asked about Jennifer. The nurse said that Jennifer was a bit worse with respiratory
problems and that she was on antibiotics. Temp 36.5 / resp 80 / HR 120-130.
We found out later that they had tried to nipple feed Jennifer after her cast was put on, and that at that point she gagged/choked on the milk. When I asked why Jennifer choked, they said that it was because she did not have a gag reflex - when in fact it turned out that she did have a gag reflex. Then they said that Jennifer has an 'H' Fistula between her Trachea and Esophagus which allows food to pass into the lungs; however, no such 'H' Fistula was ever found despite several examinations which were looking just for that. When I asked if perhaps the problem was that this morning Jennifer was all pale and congested, and that a two pound cast was put on a six pound baby, and that the placing of the cast was probably quite traumatic - they said that had nothing to do with it.

| May 3, Th - | I went to visit Jennifer with Jo and both grandmas
at 6:00 PM. We found
that Jennifer's cast was still damp, and that she was still quite congested, and had to be suctioned. Up to this point,
as far as I know, Jennifer did not have a congestion problem that needed suctioning. She is still in an isolette. Temp 36.9 / Bilirubin
count 8 / 02 26% / HR 130-140 / Resp 60-90. Called Penny to fill her in an everything. We went to pick up an electric
breast pump from Kathy Sivertson at 4482 South Hills Dr. (661-0528). Took Jo's mom home - she had been staying with
us all week to help Jo.

| May 4, F - | Dr. Orenstein is being rotated, and a new resident has been assigned to
Jennifer - Dr. Cromer. I talked with Dr. Cromer on the phone for the first time today. I asked her for
a prescription for the use of the breast pump, she said that she would write it, but she seemed very 'snippy' on the
phone. I went to see Jennifer with Jo and mom at 6:00 PM till 7:15 PM. As yet I had not met Dr. Cromer in
person. When we got to the NICU, we noticed that the right side of Jennifer's head was all swollen to the
point that she could only open her left eye. We asked the nearest person what had happened. We were very
concerned because we had never seen such a sight. The response to our question was "Its only her I/V infusing
- nobody gave her a black eye-Ha Ha: That was our first meeting with Dr. Cromer. She could have explained the
situation a bit more tactfully. She later gave us a prescription for Jo to use the electric breast pump.
Jennifer does not look well at all. She is in an isolette. She can just barely open her left eye, while
the right eye is completely swollen shut. They have a stomach drain in her also - for what reason I don't know.
Dr. Cromer is too busy to talk to us at any length. Jennifer's vital signs are as follows: Wt 2750 /
HR 115-125 / RR 40-70 / Temp 36.5-37.2 / 02 24-28%. Pete and Penny stopped by at the hospital with the kids.
According to Dr. Cromer, the first half of Jennifer's chromosome test is back - she has the normal 46 pairs.
I mentioned to Dr. Cromer that since Jennifer's nipleing problem she has been worse, and that her heart rate seemed
to fluctuate - she said not to worry about it, because Jennifer's heart rate was within normal limits.
