Apr 27, F - Talked with Pete for a while about Jennifer, and told him that she may have an additional problem.  I went to see Jennifer at Metro. Jennifer in Traction.  She seems to be much better.  They have her in traction at a wide angle.  She is out of the isolette, and taking formula through a tube into her stomach.  Jo pumped a bit at the hospital, and then the milk was given to Jennifer via the tube.  I talked to Dr. Orenstein about the possibility of Jennifer having a thyroid problem - she said that she would run a test on it.  I have been spending my evenings going over medical books trying to find some answers to Jennifer's problems - Dr. Orenstein thought that it was a good idea. The thyroid check was my idea, she said that at one time a thyroid check was routine, but that of late that check had been omitted.  The way I saw it, if Jennifer was born with various apparent physical problems such as her dislocated hip and apparent premature condition, was it not quite possible that she may also have some of her internal organs not functioning properly.  Jo pumped some more when we got home.  I asked mom to come over and stay with Jo while I went shopping.

Apr 28, Sa - We picked up mom, and went to see Jennifer at Metro.  We talked with Dr. Orenstein - she said that Jennifer may be out of traction soon, but that she can not be fed orally until then (I/V only).  Jennifer is having problems digesting her food, and the doctors feel that it is due to the fact that she is on her back.  I asked if it was possible that Jennifer's stomach might not be properly developed - that idea was discounted.  I also asked if it was possible that Jennifer might possibly be allergic or other wise incompatible with the feeding formula - Dr. King said that was impossible.  I did not understand that answer since I had heard on numerous occasions that some children are allergic to some formulas.  Dr. King also felt that laying a child on its stomach after feeding was purely a social function, and that a child does no better on its stomach than its back.  This too I considered a strange answer, but at the time I considered her to be the expert.  On our way home we stopped at Value City to buy Jennifer some dresses.  Pete and Penny came over in the evening with the kids - so did mom.

Apr 29, Su - We picked up Jo's mom, and went to Metro to see Jennifer.  Jo held her for about an hour. Jo's mom gave me my birthday present, and fixed dinner for us.  Bought misc items for Jo at Rose Drug.  Jo's mom will be staying with us all next week to help Jo get around.
