Apr 24, Tu - I finally got a good night's sleep. Jennifer in Traction.  Dr. Orenstein called me at 10:00 AM to say that they have just found that Jennifer was born with a dislocated left hip.  She said that the orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Player, tried unsuccessfully to pull Jennifer's hip back into place.  They will try to put Jennifer in traction for one to two weeks - if that does not work, she will need surgery.  I called Sue Reese to let her know of situation, and to ask for another day off - OK.  Then decided to take the rest of the week off as vacation time.  Called all of the relatives to let them know of the situation.  I picked up mom at 1:00 PM and Jo's mom at 1:20 PM.  After picking up Jo's milk at Deaconess, we all went to Metro to see Jennifer.  I talked a bit with Dr. Orenstein and the social worker Mrs. Ferrari (398-5553).  I let Mrs. Ferrari know how concerned we are about Jennifer - I started to cry, and could not finish at that time.  Jennifer's bilirubin count was 12 - up a bit, and her weight was 5# 14 oz - unchanged.  She is still on an I/V.  We went over to Deaconess to visit with Jo 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  I took Jo's mom home, and then went grocery shopping with mom.  I called Jan Brock about Jennifer.

Apr 25, W - I called Metro to see how Jennifer was doing.  She is still on an I/V, but she ate some food today - her weight is 2710 grams.  I went to see Jennifer after picking up Jo's milk at 5:00 PM.  She seems a little better, but her feet look very purple.  I talked with mom on the phone a bit about Jennifer.

Apr 26, Th - Apr 26, Th - Called Metro about Jennifer.  Went to Deaconess to pick-up Jo, met Jo's mom there also.  We all went to Metro to see Jennifer at 11:00 AM.  Jo got to hold Jennifer for the f'rst time.  We talked to Dr. Orenstein a bit, she says that there are some indications which point to the possibility that Jennifer may have Down's Syndrome.  We will know for sure after the chromosome tests are back - we learned later that Jennifer's chromosome count was normal, and also that all the other chromosomal studies that were performed turned out to be normal.  Before we knew of the results, we were upset, but we both decided that it was something which we both were willing to accept.  Jo's mom fixed us dinner.  Took Jo's mom home.  Pete and Penny dropped by with the kids on their way home from visiting Jennifer.  They dropped off my birthday present.  Bought misc items for Jo at Rose Drug.  Jo is trying to use the breast pump at home, but is having some problems in getting any kind of volume.
