May 7, M - Jo called me to say that Jennifer is being transferred to the Comprehensive Care Unit on the fourth floor - That is Dr. Rubin's Unit.  Dr. King called Jo at home to tell her the news. Jennifer will be in room 437 of Section 4B.  Visiting hours are as follows: M - Sa (4 - 8) / Su (2 - 8).  We picked up mom and dad, and we all went to Metro's Section 4B to see Jennifer. She was in a room with another little girl of about 8 years of age who seemed to be having some sort of breathing problems, and had to be fed small amounts of liquids at any one time. Jennifer's temp was down again, My Parents Edmund $ Lygia Banhidy. and she was all wrapped in a blanket in a large crib - at this point she was totally immobilized.  The mattress that she was laying upon was set at about a 30 degree angle, and she was laying on her back in her body cast, plus she was pinned down by a blanket that stretched across the mattress and was tucked in under the mattress on either side of the crib.  She had a tube going through her nose into her stomach with formula being administered at the rate of 1 cc per hour.  Just as we got there, Jennifer pulled her feeding tube loose, but the nurse pushed it back in.  Jo held her for a while, and it was the first time that mom and dad were able to see her up close and touch her.

She had been given a Barium Swallow earlier that day, but the results of that test were not back as yet.  When we were ready to leave, the nurse put Jennifer back in the crib in the same position and covered the same way as when we had gotten there.  Even though I was glad that Jennifer was out of intensive care and on her way towards coming home, I somehow felt very uneasy - much the same way as I had felt on April 19 while I was waiting to see Jo prior to her delivery.  We took mom and dad home, and went for a walk for a bit. Jo felt a bit uneasy also, but I tried to reassure her that everything would be OK now that Dr, Rubin will be looking after Jennifer.  Gene called Jo later in the evening.

May 8, Tu - Jo called me at work at 9:00 AM.  She was very upset, and asked me to come home.  The hospital called a short while earlier to tell her that Jennifer had stopped breathing last night, and that she was being transferred back down to the NICU.  I told Sue that I was leaving, and drove home - I could not help crying.  I picked up Jo at home, and we drove over to Metro to see Jennifer.  Jo could not drive yet Oxygen Bagging Apparatus. herself because of her C-sect incision.  When we got there, we talked with Drs. King, Cromer, and Rubin, According to the Doctors, Jennifer probably upchucked some of her food while in the crib in Section 4B, and some of it got into her lungs.  They said that she had turned blue, but that she had been brought back to pink within 8 min.  No one was able to tell me just how long she was actually blue, but they did say that all they had to use was an O2 bagging procedure.  They never told me at what time that incident occurred, and I found out later that she actually had two such incidents while in 4B.
