| Apr 9, M - | We went to see Dr. Kucharski today.
After examining Jo, he suggested that she go to Deaconess Hospital
to have X-rays taken of her Pelvic Region in order to determine if she is
big enough to deliver naturally. The baby has been in position for
several weeks now, but, Jo has shown no signs of imminent delivery. In
fact Jo does not feel much movement of the baby at all - she has mentioned
that fact to Dr. Kucharski on several occasions, but he said not to worry
about it. "I can hear the baby's heartbeat at about 120 per min" -
Dr. Kucharski said that it sounded like a boy, but that it did not mean
that the baby would be a boy for sure.

| Apr 10, Tu - | went to Deaconess Hospital for Jo to have her X-rays taken. |
| Apr 12, Th - | We went to Margie Carrol's last C-sect class at St. John's Hospital. Earlier in the day we went to Dr. Kucharski's office. He said that according to the X-rays, all of Jo's measurements were either too small or borderline; thus, the delivery would be via a C-sect for sure. Dr. Kucharski said that he would wait one week past Jo's due date for delivery - that is if she does not go into labor first. |
| Apr 16, M - | We went to see Dr. Kucharski. He scheduled Jo's C-sect for Thurs Apr 19, 1979. Jo's last period was on July 6, 1978, and the original projected due date was Apr 13, 1979. Jo is to check into the hospital on Tues Apr 18 in the afternoon. We let everyone know. |
| Apr 18, W - | I went with Jo to Deaconess Hospital for her to be admitted. She was assigned room 222 (398-0600). Jo's mom stopped by later - I drove her home. |
| Apr 19, Th - | I came to visit Jo at Deaconess prior to her C-sect.
The operation was scheduled for 9:30 AM, and hospital rules will not allow visitors until 45 min prior
to surgery; thus, since I got there early, I had to walk around outside until the proper time.
While walking I had a very uneasy feeling that all would not go well. Without letting me know,
Jo's surgery time was changed from 9:30 AM to 9:00 AM; thus, by the time they let me go to her room, she
was being wheeled out to go to the delivery room. Jo had had some trouble getting to sleep the night
before, so they gave her a sleeping pill at about midnight. Dr. Kucharski came by at about 10:15
to say that I had a baby daughter born at 6# 2 oz and 19" long, but that she was having some problems;
thus, she would be in an incubator for a while. The time of birth was 9:35 AM. Jennifer
seemed to be having respiratory problems - her birth Apgar scores were '5' at one min, and '7' at five min.
Dr. Kucharski said that the delivery was fast, but that Jennifer's umbilical cord was very short.
Dr. Kucharski looked very tired, and he was complaining about his right eye - "I might be getting a
sty". He had several deliveries that day, and he also had to perform a D&C after Jennifer's
delivery.
